Sync Music to your EnV2

23 06 2008

The EnV2 from Verizon Wireless is a great music phone with a easy to use interface and controls. To put music from your computer to your EnV2 requires a microSD card to transfer the songs. A cheap memory card can be found online or at an electronics store for around $10. A 1 gig memory card would suffice however I recommend a 2 gig for any music fanatics. Simply insert the card into your phone, and it should ask you to format the card. Select yes. If it does not ask to insert a memory card, to format it, go through the menus by pressing OK > 9 > 9 > 3> right soft key (options) > 1. This formats your memory card, creating all of the directories on it for you. Now plug your memory card into your computer using the adapter provided with the card. Open up the drive on your computer and navigate to the my_music directory. Either copy or drag your songs onto this directory. Do not create folders as the music application recognizes all of the songs if they are in the top directory. Then eject your drive and insert it into your phone. The music application is located at OK > Ok > OK > 4. It should start adding the songs and then you should be able to listen to them.

Why iTunes will never be a subscription based music service

21 06 2008

The iTunes Music Store has just surpassed its first 5 billion song downloads. Every single song, being bought by one of its millions of customers. If all of those customers had access to every single song ever released to the store. Apple would go broke. When iTunes was first released in 2001, its main goal was to provide an easy access to a catalog of music, for users to fill his or her iPod with. Read the rest of this entry »

How to set up an ad-hoc network using wifi for easy file sharing

20 06 2008

Ever need to move a couple songs, movies, or podcast episodes, to another computer? Well, here is your answer. First open iTunes and make a playlist, or smart playlist, with all of the items you would like to copy. Simply select them all by pressing cmd-a, then dragging and dropping them onto your desktop, or a folder on your desktop. If both of your computers are Macs, with wifi, then a simple solution is outlined here. If not, then simply use an external hard drive, or flash drive. To transfer your items to your other Mac by wifi, first set up and ad-hoc network between the two computers. Under the airport menu, click “create a new network.” Name the network something meaningful, then check require password. Make up a password to use for this temporary network. Then on the other computer click the airport menu, and find the network ad type in the password to connect. The airport icon should change to a different picture meaning you are connected. Make sure file sharing is enabled in your system preferences, just the public folder, and drop the files in the drop folder. Now on the other Mac, navigate to that folder and import the items into iTunes.
