How to sync your LG VX9100, or EnV2 with a Mac

18 06 2008

Just got that shiny new Env2 from Verizon and looking to sync it to your Mac without any extra hardware? This article was written to guide you with just that. Here is a tutorial to sync your EnV2 with a Mac running OS X Leopard using bluetooth.
If you have a micro SD card, there is a simpler process to put music, pictures, and video on your phone. Post in the comments, if you would like an article with that process.

For bluetooth here is the guide:

First setup bluetooth on your EnV2. Go to OK > 9 > 3 > Press the left soft key to turn on bluetooth. Then, on your mac, go to system preferences > Bluetooth. Click on the + to add a new device. Back to your phone, go back to the bluetooth menu by pressing OK > 9 >3 press the right soft key this time for options and then press 2 for discovery mode, switch it to on. On your mac, press continue and then select mobile phone and press continue. Your phone should show up as LG VX9100. Select it and press continue. Then press continue again. On your phone press yes, then type in the number that showed up on your screen. It should be an 8-digit number. Select always connect on your phone and on the next screen on your computer, unselect the option to us your phones internet, pres continue, then quit on the final screen. Now that you have successfully paired your phone and your mac, let’s get syncing!

On your mac, go to system preferences > Bluetooth again. Select your phone, LG VX9100, and click on the little gear shaped icon next to the minus symbol. Click on browse device from that menu. If you do not have a memory card, there should be 3 folders, if you do have a memory card, there should be 6. To put pictures, video, and sounds on your phone, simply drag and drop them on the correct folder and they should begin transferring to your mobile phone.

This method is for pictures, sounds, and videos. Another tutorial will be posted later with instructions for contacts, calendar, and music. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: The contacts article is up posted here. Enjoy!

Awesome!

I consider myself to be pretty techno savvy, but this tutorial saved my life. I just bought an enV2 a couple hours ago.

From the last line of this tutorial, is it definitely possible to sync contacts then?

Contacts are able to be sent one-way, both ways. Meaning you can send from your Mac to your phone, and your phone, to your Mac, but not both at the same time. You can read the post http://techupdate.blogvis.com/2008/06/19/contact-sync-between-your-mac-and-your-env2/

Will I get charged for using Bluetooth?

19 07 2008
soccerislife8 (18:38:42) :

@Emma: No, bluetooth is something built into your Mac and you phone, and you will not get charged. It is a piece of hardware designed for wireless capabilities such as printing, a wireless mouse and keyboard, or a bluetooth headset. Hope that clears that up.

I have tried to put video into the Pix folder in many different formats, but at best I can only get sound on the EnV2. Is it because I’m using a Mac? Do you have any advice?

@smackdown - You should be trying to put videos into the my_flix folder. Also, make sure that the videos are set to the right dimensions or else they will get cropped and also make sure they are in the .3gp or .3g2 file format.

Thank you so much. Once I changed the aspect ratio on my conversion software the MP4 format worked just fine. Thanks again for the advice!

I tried to sync a ENV2 with a mac using Tiger (os10.4) and will will show the computers name on the phone but the mac will not show the phones name so I am unable to finish the sync. Do you have any suggestions?

@Arno - are the settings for the bluetooth sharing correct on your mac? Also, have you tried to re-add the phone after the initial try?

Arno (22:02:42) :

I had the computer synced to a few phones through ATT and it was simple, no probs at all,. had a Razr and a Slivr and they were fine. But with this Verizon phone it wont show on my computer. I went into the Bluetooth setting to delete the initial try but nothing was there to delete and re-add. I am at a loss

Is it possible to add music to the env2 via bluetooth? I don’t have anything that connects my microSD card to my iBook, but my iBook has bluetooth.
