Sync Music to your EnV2

23 06 2008

The EnV2 from Verizon Wireless is a great music phone with a easy to use interface and controls. To put music from your computer to your EnV2 requires a microSD card to transfer the songs. A cheap memory card can be found online or at an electronics store for around $10. A 1 gig memory card would suffice however I recommend a 2 gig for any music fanatics. Simply insert the card into your phone, and it should ask you to format the card. Select yes. If it does not ask to insert a memory card, to format it, go through the menus by pressing OK > 9 > 9 > 3> right soft key (options) > 1. This formats your memory card, creating all of the directories on it for you. Now plug your memory card into your computer using the adapter provided with the card. Open up the drive on your computer and navigate to the my_music directory. Either copy or drag your songs onto this directory. Do not create folders as the music application recognizes all of the songs if they are in the top directory. Then eject your drive and insert it into your phone. The music application is located at OK > Ok > OK > 4. It should start adding the songs and then you should be able to listen to them.

Your quick tutorials have been amazing. Where do I plug in my adapter, I don’t see a slot anywhere for it on my Mac? Thanks

I have loved your tutorials. I have been debating switching out my EnV2 for the palm centro for the calendar applications. How seamless is the sync between the EnV2 and ical? Thanks

@Kortni - If you have already bought your MicroSD Adapter and MicroSD Card, you might have to buy a usb MicroSD adapter. Or if you have a camera that accepts a regular SD card, insert the microsd card into the adapter and insert the adapter into your camera. Then plug your camera into your computer through USB and you should be able to use it as a memory card.

@stacey - As of now, the syncing between the env2 and ical is very rough with a lot of manual work. Not the ideal situation for people with busy calendars. Bitpim, the program that allows you to easy sync contacts, calendars, and tones to your phone is supposed to come out with an update tomorrow that will hopefully support the EnV2 which as of now it does not. If it does, I will be sure to write a tutorial shortly on how to use it to sync contacts, calendar, tones, music, pictures, and video all from one place and even automatically!

Stay tuned!
Again, thank you for all of your comments! I now have more of a push to write more tutorials to help more people! Thanks again!

any updates about syncing the env2 and ical?
bitpim has been released for the env2…

soccerislife8 (22:31:02) :

Well, the release of the new 1.0.6 bitpim only lets us sync a few things and the calendar and contacts function is not one of them. You can manually export each event in your calendar (a pain) then send them over bluetooth to your phone by following my other tutorial called contacts sync with the env2.

ok I love this because you just saved me like 199 bucks on a iPhone. but I need help. I have the phone and I was going to go to the store and but the cable for the Music manager for PC. I just want the cable, what would happen? can I just use the cable or do I need a SM card to?
(great job btw)

You don’t exactly need the microsd card if that is what you are referring too with the SM card. The phone has a limited amount of memory though around 62 MB enough for about 20 songs max.

I followed the instructions above for Sync Music to your EnV2 amd it all worked until I put the card in and it did not start adding the songs. What do I do now? Thanks

soccerislife8 (08:43:01) :

@Larry: Hmm. Well, first, did you format the card using the phone? Then did it make directories on the card for my_music, my_pix, my_flix, my_sounds? You added them to the my_music, right? Lastly, are your songs in mp3, m4a, or wma? I think those are the only formats the phone reads. Hope that helps!

Elle (00:23:47) :

How do i change my cd to mp3 for my env2? I’m having the same problem as ^^ and i can’t figure out how to change it.

28 08 2008
soccerislife8 (06:21:29) :

@Elle - use software to rip your cds to mp3. any media software such as itunes, windows media player, or real player should work.

Robin (07:46:57) :

I formatted the card on the phone, but I can’t verify that it made the directories. WHen I put the card in my notebook, it doesn’t recognize it. Advice?

28 08 2008
soccerislife8 (14:43:10) :

@Robin - What exactly doesn’t it recognize, the card itself, or the directories?

29 08 2008
Robin (05:48:16) :

The card itself. When I go to “my computer” it’s not there. If I put another SD card in, it is recognized.

29 08 2008
soccerislife8 (06:18:19) :

@Robin - try reformatting the card in your phone again. Also, make sure that it is securely inside the SD adapter. If none of those options work, you might have a defective card.
