Debate: Apple
In your opinion, do you like the direction Apple is taking? This can include anything with the revolutionary iPhone, the soon 3G iPhone, or anything Mac. Do you think the App Store will be successful and stop many jailbreaks from happening or will it blow up in Apple’s face? Let’s start a debate here…let the debate begin!

Okay! This forum is open to all comments, good or bad about the topic. Let’s get this debate started.
Personally, I think that the Macbook Air was not a very good product. I mean all over the internet yesterday was pictures of the HP guy cutting up a cake with the Macbook Air. Its just not a good product. Yeah sure it’s thin. Really thin. But come on. One guy already threw his away accendentally and there is also videos of how the Macbook is thin enough. We don’t need anything thinner. IMO the Macbook Air is just a showy flashy product to impress people who don’t realize its horrifying specs. Sorry for rambling. Great thread!
Wow! Our first poster already. Great point there, yes the Macbook Air does seem a little overrated in the fact that the Macbook is just as powerful if not more powerful and for $600 less.
I am not a fan of Mac, excluding the iPod. I feel it is the faux-artsy people in soho who think the fact that they’re in Starbucks with the latest Mac product makes them cool. But i digress, i will refer you to another page which i found to be interesting and debates this question as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my iBook but over the years I needed a desktop to control some smart home products and couldn’t spend thousands of dollars to do so (so I bought a Dell). I like what Apple did up to roughly the release of the iPod touch.
What I would like to see:
1) Make it possible to switch out components. I don’t want to have to buy a whole new system just because I want to upgrade the processor and/or motherboard.
2) Price… Lower it! I’m not saying that they should be Dell priced because to get that low they would have to sacrifice quality and that’s not good (I’ve dropped an iBook onto a hardwood floor and no damage done) but 2/3 the cost would make it more worth while.
3) Switch to all solid state flash drives. I’m sure this is on the way, but jump in early.
Finally and low on the list #4) Roll with the Macbook Air idea but don’t release it until it is truly functional.
PS to Satch: I know that there are quite a few mac fanboys out there that make the “culture” unbearable. They annoy me too, but one has to look at the facts.
Dell and a few other competitors make some really good cheap machines. If not price, but performance is your cup of joe, then macs are second to none. To buy a high priced windows machine is about the same as buying an equivalent mac.
Ease of use (espically with all of the “are you sure” messages and limits of preferences in windows and vastly superior scripting in OS X) is FAR superior in macs.
Lastly, if the claim is regarding software availability: Most software for macs is FREE not to mention if there is a windows program that you wish to run not available for OS X then you can get VMware for $90 and said program will run flawlessly.
Great comments! I enjoy your insight and thoughts on the Mac and Apple products. Keep them coming!
